What's going on with stocks in the third quarter?

Mostly solid earnings for the third quarter are helping to prop up stocks as well. The S&P 500 rose 1.2% Monday, and the Nasdaq gained about 0.9%, too. Both indexes are also sporting decent gains for October, with the Nasdaq up more than 3.5% and the S&P up almost 6%.

Will the stock market push higher if it's already bottomed?

Also boding well for the idea that the market has already bottomed and is likely to push higher is the fact that stocks has seen back-to-back quarterly gains, according to Fundstrat. "Over past 50 years, two consecutive quarters never seen in a 'bear market," Fundstrat's Tom Lee said in a Friday note.
